Introduction:
If you’re looking to get admission into any Central University after completing Class 12th, then you will need to take the CUET 2023 exam. In this blog, we will discuss everything you need to know about the Common University Entrance Test, including its registration process, syllabus, exam pattern, fees, and most importantly, some tips and tricks to crack the exam and help you get into your dream college.
What is CUET?
Earlier, every university had its own separate entrance exam for admission. However, the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is now a common entrance exam that is conducted by a third party called the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission into several central universities. These universities accept admissions on the basis of the CUET results.
Initially, CUET was known as CUCET, which stood for Central Universities Common Entrance Test. However, today, CUET 2023 has become the primary examination for admission into 44 central universities. Including some of the top-ranking universities in India. Such as Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University, Aligarh Muslim University, JNU, Assam University, Central University Of Andhra Pradesh, Manipur University, Mizoram University, National Sanskrit University, North-eastern Hill University, Pondicherry University, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University, Sikkim University, Tripura University, University Of Allahabad, University Of Delhi, University Of Hyderabad, Visva-Bharati University, Tezpur University, Central University Of Kashmir, Central University Of Kerala, Central University Of Odisha, and many more.
Central universities are universities that are established through an Act of Parliament and are funded by the central government to provide top-quality infrastructure, faculties, extracurricular activities, and courses. These universities always rank at the top of the NIRF Rankings, and getting admission into one of these universities can turn your dreams into reality. The only way to get into these prestigious universities is by taking the CUET 2023 examination.
Apart from central universities, many Deemed Universities, Deemed to be Universities, Private Universities, and Colleges also consider the CUET score as a benchmark and take admissions on the basis of that. The number of registrations for CUET broke the record of JEE and NEET in its very first year, and this number will keep increasing in the upcoming exams, making it the largest exam in India.
Why was CUET introduced?
Before the introduction of CUET, every central university used to take admissions on the basis of Class 12th marks or on the basis of marks obtained by candidates in their own entrance examinations. However, as we all know, 12th marks can differ according to the board you belong to. State boards’ varying marking practices lead to discrimination in admissions. To address this, the Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) was introduced, now known as CUET. CUET ensures a fair evaluation system for equal opportunities in the admissions process.
The introduction of CUET was also motivated by the need to reduce the substantial expenses incurred in conducting separate entrance exams by each university. To achieve the goal of “one nation, one exam,” the government established the National Testing Agency (NTA). As a result, the NTA now administers CUET 2023, streamlining the examination process.

Once you have successfully registered, you will receive an admit card that will contain all the essential information regarding the exam such as the date, time, and venue of the exam. It is important to carry this admit card along with a valid photo ID proof to the exam center.
Fees of CUET
Fees for CUET vary depending on the number of subjects selected for the exam. As mentioned earlier, some colleges require students to take exams in three domain subjects in Section 2 for the same course, while others may require four or five subjects. Accordingly, exam fees for 3, 7, or 10 subjects in CUET UG 2023 must be paid based on the number of subjects in Section 2. For example, if you are taking the B.Com exam for Delhi University, you will need to take exams in Accounts, Economics, Business, and another subject along with a compulsory language in Section 1 and a general test in Section 3. In this case, you have four subjects in Section 2, so you will pay for seven subjects.
If you take more than seven subjects in Section 2, you will have to pay for ten subjects. The reason for offering these options is that different universities use different subject marks as a basis for admission. Therefore, if you want to apply to multiple universities, you will need to take exams in multiple subjects.
The fee for 3 subjects is Rs. 750 for General category students, while General-EWS (Economically Weaker Section) and OBC candidates must pay Rs. 700. SC/ST and Person with Disability category candidates must pay Rs. 650 only. If you increase the number of subjects, your fees will increase accordingly.

Similarly, if their domain is science, the questions will be from physics, chemistry, biology, or math. If a candidate wants to appear for exams in two different domains, they will have to appear for all the required papers in Section 2.
Section 3
Is the General Test, containing questions on basic aptitude, current affairs, and general knowledge. Candidates must attempt at least 60 out of 75 questions in 60 minutes. However, there is a negative marking, with 5 marks awarded for a correct answer and 1 mark deducted for an incorrect answer.
